What comes to mind are the cinematic anomalies that stubbornly refuse to fit in a specific category. Think about eerie, intriguing, atmospheric movies such as Alien, Walkabout, Near Dark, Mulholland Drive, and Picnic at Hanging Rock. So when I saw John Boorman’s Deliverance for the first time, I felt that same magic.
