Dillon Detours: Pop Culture Picks
My favourite Medium writers for all things nerdy.
I decided to make this instalment of Dillon Detours separate and distinct from last month’s cineaste celebration, as I think the writers here occupy a slightly different territory (though they border and often overlap with that of the cineaste). At any rate, this month I’m shining the Dillon Empire spotlight on those writing about all things nerdy.
Superheroes, fantasy, science fiction, and horror are the stand-out subjects here, whether on film, television, novels, comics, or in computer games (though I know so little about the latter, I’ve not highlighted any articles on that subject). Although I sometimes come off as a pop culture nerd, I’m really more of a cineaste, and therefore feel it is right and proper to highlight those who write on pop culture more effectively than I do. To that end, here are ten writers worthy of your attention, and ten examples of their outstanding work in this field.
Let’s start with Eric Pierce, who is not only Medium’s uber-nerd, but also runs the biggest pop culture publication on the site, Fanfare.
