The Dillon Empire chews over last month’s mouthfuls of Medium munchies.
Every month, the Dillon Empire makes a selection of ten Medium articles to highlight. This process is arduous, involving many fevered brows and much hand-wringing. Keeping this list to just ten is often agonising, and yet, I’m determined to maintain a modicum of discipline in these articles, considering how the original run of Dillon Picks sprawled and grew into its own meta-drama (involving various presenter characters such as Reginald the Rigorous and Millicent the Malevolent — see here for an example of that madness).
At any rate, if you’ve made the cut, you are permitted a smidgen of smugness, for Dillon Picks is picky. I pride myself on this ruthless selection criteria. I’m also pleased to say that Medium itself seems to be taking some of my criteria on board in terms of what it now promotes.
What are these criteria? Firstly, and most emphatically: Dillon Picks has a zero-tolerance policy on AI, either in writing or in advocating the use thereof. That is a hill I will die on, so don’t bother commenting about how AI makes writing “accessible” to people who don’t have the talent to write, or other such nonsense. Such arguments are akin to saying cybernetic enhancements make Olympic-level athletics “accessible” to yours truly. Or…
