Herewith my monthly scouring of Medium, separating wheat from tares to showcase your most excellent work amid articles of equal excellence, instead of Medium’s algorithmically selected sea of mediocrity. This month has proved particularly interminable in respect of the latter, with an alarming proliferation of competitive victimisation, professionally offended takes on Twitter outrages, show-off pieces on earnings, and other insufferable piles of mendacious Medium manure.

However, from the midst of manure, roses grow. Thus it was that I located the following. If you have been included, take a moment to pat yourself on the back, as my inclusion criteria remain immensely strict. Smugness is an acceptable response to selection for Dillon Picks.

Before we get underway, I should announce the winner of last month’s impromptu competition to contribute the most ludicrous Oscar acceptance speech-style comment. It was a hard-fought battle, and in the end, I’ve opted to include my top three, in bronze, silver, and gold-winning positions respectively.

In bronze medal position: Sarah Paris contributed this solidly sycophantic gem, which gained extra points for virtue-signalling…
